Sùil air: Comhairle nan Leabhraichean & Clò a’ Bhradain // Case Study: The Gaelic Books Council & Bradan Press

Air Seachdain na Gàidhlig, le taic bho Mhaoin nan Tabhartas Beag (Bòrd na Gàidhlig), bha dà thachartas air-loidhne aig Comhairle nan Leabhraichean agus Clò a’ Bhradain a bha a’ toirt sùil air dà nobhail Gàidhlig, aon do dh’inbhich is aon do chloinn.

Ruith Aonghas MacLeòid seisean air nobhail grafaigeach Gàidhlig far an d’ fhuair na com-pàirtichean cothrom air nobhail a chluinntinn ga leughadh leis an ùghdair. Fhuair iad tuigse air an sgeulachd agus mhìnich Aonghas am briathrachas agus an gràmar a chleachd E san sgeulachd. Le bhith ga chluinntinn ga leughadh, fhuair iad oideachadh air mar a chanadh iad na faclan. Bha cuid de na bha an làthair air a bhith nan oileanaich aig an ùghdair ach bha cuid eile nach robh aithnichte do Aonghas no Clò a’ Bhradain. Bha seo a’ sealltainn gun robh an tachartas air daoine a ruigsinn nach robh eòlach air sgrìobhadh Aonghais no foillseachaidhean Chlò a’ Bhradain no Chomhairle nan Leabhraichean, agus ‘s e deagh rud a bha seo. Thàinig daoine a-steach bho na Stàitean Aonaichte, Canada agus an Rìoghachd Aonaichte. Bha barrachd ann ris an robh iad an dùil.

Leughaidhean Fionn MacCool: fhuair na com-pàirtichean cothrom nobhail Gàidhlig a chluinntinn ga leughadh gu dà-chànanach. Chuala iad sa Bheurla e, a leig leotha beagan eòlais a chur air an sgeulachd mus cuala iad sa Ghàidhlig e. Chuidich seo iad le bhith ag èisteachd ris a’ Ghàidhlig agus a bhith a’ cluinntinn litreachas chloinne. Bha a’ mhòr-chuid san èisteachd nan luchd-Ionnsachaidh inbheach – chan fhacar ach aon phàiste, ged a bha cuid de na camarathan eile dheth. Cha do dh’ aithnich Clò a’ Bhradain mòran de na com-pàirtichean, a bha a’ ciallachadh a-rithist gun robh iad air daoine ùr a ruigsinn. Bha daoine ann bho na Stàitean Aonaichte, Canada agus an Rìoghachd Aonaichte.

On Seachdain na Gàidhlig, with support from the Small Grants Fund (Bòrd na Gàidhlig), Comhairle nan Leabhraichean and Bradan Press hosted two online webinars of graphic novels – one for adults and one for children. Webinar Aonghais MhicLeòid: the attendees were able to receive a free guided experience of reading an extract from a Gaelic graphic novel, guided by the author. Attendees were able to understand and enjoy the story, while also gaining exposure to and explanations of some more complex Gaelic grammatical structures and advanced vocabulary used by the author in the story. Attendees were also able to hear the story read aloud, which provides exposure to Gaelic pronunciation. We noted that some of the attendees were previous online students of the author’s, but there were also many attendees whose names were unfamiliar to either Angus or Bradan Press. This is a great sign that the event reached people who were not previously exposed to Angus’s teaching or Bradan Press’s Gaelic literature publications. We noted that were attendees from the US, Canada, and the UK. The number of attendees far exceeded our expectations, which was greatly appreciated. I would say this was largely the outcome of Seachdain na Gàidhlig’s and Comhairle nan Leabhraichean’s publicity efforts.

Leughaidhean Fionn MacCool: he attendees were able to receive a free participatory read-aloud experience in both English and Gaelic. Attendees were able to understand and enjoy the story in English, and then apply that familiarity to listening to the story in Gaelic. This provided good Gaelic listening practice as well as increasing their exposure to Gaelic children’s literature. They noted that most of the attendees seemed to be adult Gaelic learners; we only saw one child present, who was an infant (but other parent attendees may have been keeping their cameras off). Most of the attendees’ names were unfamiliar to Bradan Press. Again this is a good sign that the event reached people who were not previously exposed to Bradan Press’s Gaelic children’s book publications. There were attendees from the US, Canada, and the UK.

Sùil air: Còisir Ghàidhlig Thaigh an Uillt // Case Study: Taynuilt Gaelic Choir

Air Seachdain na Gàidhlig, le taic bho Mhaoin nan Tabhartas Beag, chomharraich Còisir Ghàidhlig Thaigh an Uillt 25 bliadhna le bùth-obrach puirt-à-beul comhla ri Sìleas Nic na Ceàrdaich gu 2f gu 4f agus cèilidh air an oidhche bho 7f gu 11f comhla ri Joanie agus Micheal Garvin. Ghabh 18 neach pàirt anns a’ bhùth-obrach agus bha 52 ann airson a’ chèilidh air an oidhche.

Bha a h-uile duine anns a’ bhùth-obrach math air a’ Ghàidhlig a chleachadh nuair a bha iad a’ seinn agus bha e uabhasach soirbheachail airson Gàidhlig a bhrosnachadh. Bha an cèilidh gu math spòrsail agus ghabh a h-uile duine pàirt le dannsadh no seinn. Thuirt cuideigin: ‘Chòrd an oidhche cho math rium gu bheil mi ag iarraidh barrachd fhiosrachadh mun òrain a chuala mi a-nochd agus òrain Ghàidhlig eile airson pàirt a ghabhail aig amannan eile.’ Mar a’ phàirt den cheilidh, rinn Andreas Wolff òraid beag anns a’ Ghàidhlig. Ghabh Colin Fisher agus Lyle Kennedy òrain anns a’ Ghàidhlig. Sheinn Còisir Ghàidhlig Thaigh an Uillt (agus càraidean!) òrain Ghàidhlig cuideachd.

Tha a’ chòisir misneachail gum bi ùidh aig daoine anns a’ choimhearsnachd a thaobh na Gàidhlig fhein agus a’ chòisir cuideachd às dèidh na tachartasan. Thuirt cuid de dhaoine gun robh iad airson pàirt a ghabhail anns a’ chòisir no barrachd Gàidhlig ionnsachadh. Bha cuid ann nach robh uabhasach eòlach air òrain Ghàidhlig idir ach chòrd am bùth-obrach agus ceilidh riutha. Thug am bùth-obrach teans do dhaoine òrain Ghàidhlig ionnsachadh agus b’ e seo a’ chiad cothrom airson cuid dhiubh.

//
On Seachdain na Gàidhlig, with support from the Small Grants Fund (Bòrd na Gàidhlig), Taynuilt Gaelic Choir celebrated 25 years with an afternoon puirt-à-beul workshop with Sìleas Sinclair and an evening cèilidh with Joanne and Michael Garvin. 18 people attended the workshop and there were 52 at the evening cèilidh.

Everyone at the workshop was good at speaking Gaelic while they were singing and it was very successful at promoting Gaelic. The cèilidh was great fun and everyone took part in dancing and singing. An attendee said: ‘I enjoyed the evening so much that I would love to know more about the songs I heard and other songs so I can take part in more events in future.’ At the cèilidh Andreas Wolff delivered a speech, Colin Fisher and Lyle Kennedy sang Gaelic songs and Taynult Gaelic Choir and friends also sang some Gaelic songs.
The choir is confident that the community will take more of an interest in Gaelic events and in the choir itself after the celebrations. Some who took part were interested in joining the choir or in learning more Gaelic. There were some who hadn’t heard many Gaelic songs before but they really enjoyed the workshop and cèilidh. The workshop gave people a chance to learn Gaelic songs, and for many it was their first time.

Sùil air: Cnoc Soilleir // Case Study: Cnoc Soilleir

Air Seachdain na Gàidhlig, le taic bho Mhaoin nan Tabhartas Beag, bha sreath de thachartasan aig Cnoc Soilleir ann an Uibhist a Deas. Chlàraich iad daoine ag innse na seanfhaclan Gàidhlig a b’ fheàrr leotha agus chuir iad air na meadhanan sòisealta iad. Bha daoine aig gach ìre fileantais nan measg, bho luchd-Ionnsachaidh gu fileantaich.

Bha seisean còmhraidh neo-fhoirmeil aca gus daoine a bhrosnachadh gu bhith a’ bruidhinn na Gàidhlig. Fhuair iad teatha agus ceapairean agus bha seisean ciùil aca an sin cuideachd.

Bhruidhinn òraidichean air iasgach, gu h-àraidh an turas a bhios maorach a’ gabhail à Uibhist a Deas dhan Spàinn, agus chaidh am film ‘Maorach’ a bh’ air BBC Alba a shealltainn, air a chlàradh le Beatrix Wood.

Bha an susbaint air na meadhanan sòisealta uabhasach soirbheachail agus fhuairear measadh aig na tachartasan a bha gu math misneachail, le cuid sa choimhearsnachd a’ tadhal air Cnoc Soilleir airson a’ chiad turas. O Sheachdain na Gàidhlig tha barrachd dhaoine san sgìre air a bhith a’ frithealadh thachartasan san togalach agus tha iad air turais a chur air dòigh gus sealltainn dha daoine dè bhios a’ dol ann an Cnoc Soilleir agus dè a th’ ann dhan choimhearsnachd. Tha ùidh air nochdadh ann an clasaichean Gàidhlig aig Ceòlas, a bhios a’ gabhail àite san togalach.

Air Seachdain na Gàidhlig, nochd dithis oileanach a bha air greis gnìomhachais leis a’ chùrsa Gàidhlig is Conaltradh aig Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, agus rinn iadsan obair mòr ann a bhith a’ cuideachadh ag ullachadh thachartasan, ‘s chòrd e riutha glan a bhith a’ bruidhinn ri fileantaich. Bha iad a’ faireachdainn gun do dh’fhàs iad na bu chofhurtail ga bruidhinn agus gun do thog iad blas na sgìre na b’ fheàrr.

//

On Seachdain na Gàidhlig, with support from the Small Grants Fund (Bòrd na Gàidhlig), Cnoc Soilleir had a number of activities during the week. They recorded and uploaded to social media channels individuals telling their favourite Gàidhlig  proverb. This ranged from total beginners to the language to fluent speakers.

They held a drop in session to encourage Gàidhlig conversation and give confidence to those learning the language. Tea and sandwiches were provided along with a live music session.

Guest speakers delivered a talk on Fishing, in particular the journey of shellfish from South Uist to Spain, and this was accompanied by footage from the BBC Alba film ‘Maorach’ filmed by local maker Beatrix Wood.
The social media posts were very popular and verbal feedback from events was positive with a number of individuals from the community visiting Cnoc Soilleir for the first time. Since Seachdain na Gàidhlig they have had an increased number of local people attending events in the building and quite a few guided tours to highlight what is available for community use. There has also been renewed interest in individuals wishing to attend in person Gàidhlig classes with Ceòlas which is homed in Cnoc Soilleir.
Seachdain na Gàidhlig also fitted perfectly with the arrival of two students on a 3 week placement from Sabhal Mòr Ostaig undertaking the CertHE Gaelic and Communication course. Both of them helped with the organising of events and commented on the pleasure of holding conversations with native Gàidhlig speakers. Both felt that their confidence in speaking the language and their understanding of local dialect had improved greatly.

Sùil air: Comann nam Pàrant Lannraig a Tuath // Case Study: Comann nam Pàrant North Lanarkshire

Air Seachdain na Gàidhlig, le taic bho Mhaoin nan Tabhartas Beag (Bòrd na Gàidhlig), bha cuirm mhòr aig Comann nam Pàrant Lannraig a Tuath gus 25 bliadhna de dh’fhoghlam tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig ann an Siorrachd Lannraig a Tuath a chomharrachadh. Chaidh cuireadh a thoirt dha gach pàiste a tha a’ dol tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig san sgìre pàirt a ghabhail sa chuirm. Thadhail na h-oidean, Màiri NicAonghais agus Norrie MacÌomhair, air na sgoilearan tro Sheachdain na Gàidhlig gus obair a dhèanamh leotha agus bha Fiona NicAsgaill cuideachd gan ullachadh anns na mìosan ro-làimh. Thàinig Còisir Òg Ghàidhlig na h-Eaglais Brice agus Còisir Ghàidhlig Chomar nan Allt a sheinn aig a’ chuirm cuideachd gus bharrachd dhan choimhearsnachd a thoirt a-steach. Rinn Màiri, Norrie agus Fiona pìosan aig a’ chuirm a bharrachd air a bhith a’ cluich ‘s a’ seinn còmhla ris a’ chloinn. B’ e deagh chomharrachadh a bh’ ann agus cothrom dha daoine coinneachadh gus Gàidhlig a bhruidhinn còmhla agus a bhith san èisteachd aig tachartas air leth. Bha an oidhche uabhasach soirbheachail agus chòrd e ris a h-uile duine a bha an làthair.

On Seachdain na Gàidhlig, with support from the Small Grants Fund (Bòrd na Gàidhlig), Comann nan Pàrant North Lanarkshire held a concert at Greenfaulds High School celebrating 25 years of Gaelic Medium Education within North Lanarkshire. All children from every GME establishment were given the opportunity to be a part of the concert. Tutors Màiri MacInnes and Norrie MacIver visited the kids during Seachdain na Gàidhlig and worked on material with them, on top of which Fiona MacAskill worked with the kids during her school timetable for months previous to the concert. They invited Falkirk Gaelic Youth Choir and Cumbernauld Gaelic Choir to perform at the concert to try and create a community atmosphere. They also had Màiri, Norrie and Fiona performing with the kids as well as their own material. The concert was very much a celebration as well as an opportunity for people within the community to mix and enjoy a unique experience thanks to Gaelic. It was a hugely successful event and it was well enjoyed by all who attended.

Sùil air: Sgoil na Coille Nuaidh // Case Study: Sgoil na Coille Nuaidh

Air Seachdain na Gàidhlig, le taic bho Mhaoin nan Tabhartas Beag, bha seiseanan seinn aig Sgoil na Coille Nuaidh agus cothroman còmhraidh do sgoilearan is luchd-tadhail. Bha cothrom air leth aig na sgoilearan òran ùr ionnsachadh le oide seinn – bha an cothrom seo thairis air an sgoil-àraich agus cuideachd Clasaichean 1 gu 7.

Ann an dà latha dh’ ionnsaich iad òrain snog, cànan is briathrachais ùr agus cuideachd gluasadan airson na diofar òran.  Chòrd e riutha a’ taisbeanadh seo gu inbhich bhon coimhearsnachd a tha ag ionnsachadh Gàidhlig agus chòrd e cuideachd ri na h-inbhich a bhith ag èisteachd.

Bha cothrom an uairsin aig sgoilearan nas sine a bhith bruidhinn is cabadaich le na daoine a bha a’ tadhal air an sgoil agus bha a’ chlann agus na h-inbhich cho misneachail!

Bu toigh leotha tachartasan mar seo a’ dèanamh a-rithist.

//

On Seachdain na Gàidhlig, with support from the Small Grants Fund, Sgoil na Coille Nuaidh hosted song sessions for their pupils and conversation circles which invited folk from the community to speak to the schoolchildren. The children, aged from Sgoil-àraich right up to Primary 7, had a great opportunity to learn a songs with a singing tutor.

In two days they learned new songs, language and terminology and they learned actions for the different songs. They enjoyed singing them forpeople from the community who are learning Gaelic, who thoroughly enjoyed their performance.

The older pupils then had a chance to have a chat with the visitors and both old and young were very encouraged by the interactions.

The school would like to run more activities like this in future.

Chuidich iad le bhith ag eadar-theangachadh an tachartais fad na h-oidhche.

Dh’fhairich an Comann gun do thog an tachartas ùidh dhaoine sa Ghàidhlig. Bhruidhinn a’ chlann mu na h-òrain a sheinn iad agus dh’ionnsaich an fheadhainn aig nach robh Gàidhlig faclan furasta mar ‘mòran taing’ agus ‘a’ dannsa’. Bha cuid den chloinn car diùid a bhith a’ bruidhinn sa Ghàidhlig an toiseach ach bidh sin a’ tachairt le clann sa bhun-sgoil.

//

On Seachdain na Gàidhlig, with support from the Small Grants Fund, Comann nam Pàrant Peairt ran a cèilidh for families from throughout Perthshire, many of whom had Gaelic and some who didn’t, and others who were trilingual.

They had young families attending and also older members of society from the Gaelic society of Perth and Gaelic choirs. The evening was very much enjoyed, with live music from a cèilidh band. The Gaelic medium kids were singing in preparation for the Mòd and other Gaelic events. On the walls, they had Gaelic posters which the children had drawn. The kids helped during announcements to translate everything into Gaelic.

They felt like more members of the Perth society, who do not have Gaelic, got very interested. Some English speaking and Gaelic speaking children spoke about their songs and easy words like ‘mòran taing’ and ‘a’ dannsa’.  Some kids were a bit shy to actually communicate with the Gaelic choirs and society, but this often happens with the primary aged kids.

Sùil air: Urras a’ Chlò Hearaich // Case Study: Harris Tweed Authority

Air Seachdain na Gàidhlig, le taic bho Mhaoin nan Tabhartas Beag (Bòrd na Gàidhlig), chruthaich Ùghdarras a’ Chlò Hearaich sreath de bhideothan airson gach latha den t-seachdain air na meadhanan sòisealta aca a thug sùil air a’ ghnìomhachas agus air a’ chultar mun cuairt air, agus air na daoine an sàs san obair làitheil.

Bha iad airson pàirtean dhan obair nach tèid fhaicinn cho tric a shealltainn, agus bhruidhinn iad ri daoine a bhios a’ conaltradh sa Ghàidhlig nan obair làitheil.

Thòisich iad le beagan eachdraidh mun Chlò, a’ sealltainn dealbhan bhon tasglann agus stiùiriche bhon bhòrd a’ mìneachadh mar a thòisich cùisean. Bhruidhinn iad ri luchd-obrach agus ceannardan nan factaraidhean agus ri breabadairean mar a chaidh an seachdain air adhart.

Bha am pròiseact air leth soirbheachail le deagh mheasadh bho dhaoine a bha air na bhideothan a choimhead air na meadhanan sòisealta. Bidh iad ri fhaotainn a sin gu bràth agus gu ruige seo tha iad air còrr is 50,000 duine a ruigsinn air feadh an t-saoghail.

Tha iad an dòchas gum brosnaich iad daoine gus tuilleadh ionnsachadh mun Chlò agus mun Ghàidhlig, agus bha ceangal ann le pròiseact bheul-aithris a rinn iad às dèidh sin.

//

On Seachdain na Gàidhlig, with support from the Small Grants Fund (Bòrd na Gàidhlig), the Harris Tweed Authority created a social media reel video each day that covered various aspects of the industry and culture surrounding it, featuring various people involved in the day-to-day aspects.

They also wanted to showcase people involved and parts of the processes rarely seen in front of the camera – many of whom speak Gaelic during their work/role.

They began with covering the historical side of things, showing archival footage blended with an HTA board member giving important info. They also spoke to factory warpers, owners, weavers and more as the week went on.

All went according to plan and they had some good viewing figures across our social media channels and good feedback also. The videos will remain on their social channels permanently and will continue being viewed by Harris Tweed fans worldwide, having already gone over the 50,000 views mark.

They hope it will inspire people to learn more about Gaelic and Harris Tweed, and it led nicely into an Oral Histories project they undertook later.

Sùil air: Co-roinn Ghàidhlig Mhuile is Idhe // Case Study: Mull and Iona Gaelic Partnership

Air Seachdain na Gàidhlig, le taic bho Mhaoin nan Tabhartas Beag (Bòrd na Gàidhlig), bha cèilidh aig Co-roinn Ghàidhlig Mhuile is Idhe an Talla Àrois ann an Tobar Mhoire, le ceòl bhon t-seinneadair Ghàidhlig Ceitlin Lilidh, an còmhlan-cèilidh Treshnish agus seinneadairean agus luchd-ciùil ionadail. Bha bàr agus rafail ann cuideachd. Chlàraich iad a’ chèilidh agus sheall iad beò e air an duilleag Facebook aca.

’S e oidhche shoirbheachail agus làn spòrs a bh’ ann, le 50 neach aig a’ chèilidh. Bha an ceòl uile fìor mhath agus bha tòrr dhaoine suas a’ dannsa. Cheannaich tòrr dhaoine tiocaidean rafail.

Chòrd e gu mòr ri daoine a bhith a’ faighinn an cothrom cànan agus cultar na Gàidhlig a chluinntinn. Tha iad uile an dòchas gum bi iad a‘ cur air dòigh barrachd chèilidhean mar seo san àm ri teachd, airson Gàidhlig a chumail beò sa choimhearsnachd.

//
On Seachdain na Gàidhlig, with support from the Small Grants Fund (Bòrd na Gàidhlig), the Mull and Iona Gaelic Partnership hosted a cèilidh in Aros Hall in Tobermory. They had music from singer Ceitlin Lilidh, band Treshnish, and local singers and musicians. They had a bar and a raffle. They live-streamed the cèilidh on their Facebook page.
It was a fun and successful evening with 50 in attendance. The music was excellent and everyone got up to dance. The raffle was well received.
People really enjoyed getting the opportunity to hear Gaelic language and culture. The Partnership would like to organise more ceilidhs like this one in future to keep Gaelic alive in the community.

Sùil air: Bun-sgoil an Iar // Case Study: West Primary School

Air Seachdain na Gàidhlig, le taic bho Mhaoin nan Tabhartas Beag (Bòrd na Gàidhlig), bha seachdain de thachartasan do dh’òigridh na sgoile agus do phàrantan aig Bun-sgoil an Iar. Thàinig deagh àireamh chun a’ chlais-oidhche a chaidh a ruith do dh’inbhich (deichnear) is bha iad uile toilcihte a-rèir nam beachdan a dh’fhàg iad. Ghabh a h-uile clas san sgoil pàirt sna clasaichean is chòrd sin glan ris na sgoilearan. Bha cruinneachadh ann far na chluich ceòladairean bho Fèisean nan Gàidheal ceòl dhan sgoil air fad agus chòrd sin ris a h-uile duine. Tha a h-uile sgoilear aig Bun-sgoil an Iar a-nis air còmhradh fheuchainn ann an Gàidhlig is blasad air a bhith aca aig ceòl agus cultar na Gàidhlig. Chòrd turas a Sgoil Ghleann Dàil gu mòr ri sgoilearan FTMG.

Thathar an dùil clasaichean Gàidhlig a bharrachd a chumail do phàrantan is iarrtas soirbheal airson maoineachadh air a bhith aca bho Bhòrd na Gàidhlig.Tha a-nis com-pàirteachas ann eadar Bun-sgoil an Iar agus Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghleann Dàil is iad a’ gabhail pàirt ann am fèis dhràma còmhla. Thathar an dòchas gum brosnaich seo clann na sgoile gus cumail orra leis a’ chlub Ghàidhlig agus pàirt a ghabhail aig a’ Mhòd. Tha fhios aig tòrr a bharrachd cloinne ann am Pàislig gu bheil cothroman ann dhaibh Gàidhlig ionnsachadh.

//

On Seachdain na Gàidhlig, with support from the Small Grants Fund (Bòrd na Gàidhlig), West Primary School held a series of Gaelic events for pupils and parents. An evening class was held for adults which was well attended and well received. The whole school took part in Gaelic classes and enjoyed it very much, particularly a Gaelic assembly where musicians from Fèisean nan Gàidheal played for the entire school. Every pupil at West Primary School has now had a chance to try and speak Gaelic and has experienced a taste of the music and culture. The Gaelic medium pupils enjoyed an exchange visit to Glendale Primary School.

They intend to run more classes for adults and parents as they have received funding from Bòrd na Gàidhlig to do so. There is now a tie with Glendale Primary School as they will be attending a drama festival together. They hope this will encourage pupils to carry on with Gaelic club and take part in the Mòd. More children in Paisley are now aware of the opportunities to learn Gaelic.

Sùil air: Comann nam Pàrant Baile Dhubhthaich – Latha nan Lèintean-T Gàidhlig // Case Study: Tain Parent Association – Make a Gaelic T-shirt Day!

Air Seachdain na Gàidhlig, le taic bho Mhaoin nan Tabhartas Beag, chum Comann nam Pàrant Bhaile Dhubhthaich feasgar spòrsail far an tàinig a’ choimhearsnachd còmhla airson cèic, copan agus airson lèintean-T a dhealbhachadh agus a thoirt dhachaigh. Bha an tachartas fosgailte do dhaoine de gach aois agus bha gnìomhachd ann mar Bookbug Gàidhlig do chloinn, ceòl agus dannsa, agus teatha agus cofaidh. Bha gnìomhan ann cuideachd mar a’ cur dath, geamannan agus leughadh, agus bha àite ann a-muigh far am b’ urrainn dhan chlann ruith mun cuairt. Bha fiosrachadh aca mu thachartasan is bhuidhnean Gàidhlig san sgìre m.e. Còisir Ghàidhlig an Luirg, coinneamhan seachdaineil, gnìomhachd Chultarlann Inbhir Nis, clasaichean aig Ionad Ionnsachaidh Sgìre an Luirg, cothroman Ionnsachaidh air-loidhne leithid Leabhar Fosgailte, cofaidh is cabadaich Chomann nam Pàrant Nàiseanta, clasaichean aig Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Ceòlas is eile, is fiosrachadh air foghlam tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig ann am Baile Dhubhthaich.

Bha geamannan aca a-muigh le ball-coise is baidhseagailean beaga ann an àite sàbhailte. Chum iad Cuairt is Cabadaich a bharrachd air Dimàirt 21 Gearran far an tàinig 21 neach-ionnsachaidh is fileantach bho aois 3 gu còrr is 70. Bha seo air leth soirbheachail agus an-asgaidh, agus tha iad an dùil seo a dhèanamh nas trice tro shaor-làithean na sgoile gus cothroman a thoirt do theaghlaichean Gàidhlig a chleachdadh còmhla.

B’ e seo a’ chiad tachartas mòr Gàidhlig san sgìre airson mu 6 bliadhna agus tha iad dòchasach gum tig tuilleadh dhaoine beagan foighidinn is misneachd.

On Seachdain na Gàidhlig, with support from the Small Grants Fund (Bòrd na Gàidhlig), Comann nam Pàrant Bhaile Dhubhthaich held a fun afternoon where Gaelic speakers and learners from across the community came together for cake, a cuppa and made their own Gaelic T-shirt to take away and wear. The event was open to people of all ages, and there were activities such as Gaelic Bookbug story time for children, Gaelic sing along music and dancing from the children, make your own t-shirts, and served tea, coffee and home baking.  There were also Gaelic colouring activities, word searches, games, and books, and they used an outdoor area for informal kids fun activities. They ran a small information point with information on local Gaelic activities and classes e.g Lairg Gaelic Choir, Weekly meetups, Cultarlann Inbhir Nis activities, Lairg Learning Centre Gaelic culture and heritage classes, online opportunities such as Leabhar Fosgailte, Comann Nam Pàrant Naiseanta Coffaidh is Cabadaich and classes from SMO, Ceòlas and others, and information about GME and preschool groups in Tain.

They offered outdoor games such as football, and ride on toys in an outdoor area just outside our function room so children had the option to play and run around outside, but in a safe and enclosed space. They decided to do an additional Cuairt agus Cabadaich on Tuesday 21st February, which attracted 21 people, a mix of Gaelic speakers and learners aged 3 to 70 something! This was very successful, and was a completely free to participate event which they plan to repeat regularly on school holidays, and potentially on future strike days to get families together and give children an opportunity to use Gaelic together outside school.

This was the first big Gaelic event in the area for about 6 years, so they are optimistic that patience and quiet encouragement will bring more engagement in time.
