A look at the life, songs, and poetry of Donald Iain MacKinnon ( Am Barach Barrach ), the mid-20th-century Barra bard. Through discussion, recordings, and live song, this talk explores his voice as poet, neighbour, and community figure, highlighting themes of memory, resilience, and humour.
A Comharradh coimhearsnachd with a Pancake Cafe run by Lochaline Parent Council. Come along and learn some gaelic phrases, use your gaelic and promote the language in our community. Our young people will be on hand to encourage and promote the language throughout the event.

As part of Gaelic Week 2026, explore Gaelic-language digital media and broadcasting through the generations. With contributions from Gaelic media broadcasters Matthew MacIver, Cathy MacDonald and Calum Maclean, we will discuss the expansion of TV broadcasting in the 1990s, to the launch of BBC Alba, to the current world of digital connection.
How has Gaelic media represented and supported the community it serves, and how can it contribute to maintaining use of Gaelic in the future? Should we count on specialist broadcasters to inform, entertain, and educate through Gaelic, or do we also have to do it ourselves?
Drawing on the Gaelic Week theme of ‘Use it or Lose it’ Gaelic media practitioners representing different periods of this constantly evolving sector will discuss their perspectives on these issues. How should we ‘use it’ to avoid ‘losing it’?

Two sessions will be in Sgoil Lionacleit, for students in S3 and S4 studying Gaelic. One session will be at
Taigh Chearsabhagh, for students in S5 and S6 studying Gaelic. The sessions will focus on personal
storytelling, using fiction to explore alternative narratives and futures for Gaelic language and culture. We
will consider story arcs coping with loss, discovery, and the twists and turns of keeping an idea alive.

Join us for hands-on family workshops where you’ll discover AI and learn to program computers using Scratch, the fun drag-and-drop coding language.
We’re running two sessions tailored to different age groups:
Morning Session (09:30–12:00): Primary school children
Afternoon Session (13:00–15:30): Secondary school children
All activities are fully accessible in Gaelic, and we warmly welcome both fluent speakers and learners who are interested in the language. Whether you’re brand new to coding or eager to explore tech through Gàidhlig, there’s a place for you!
Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day.
