This is a big day out in which children will mix across authorities and work in teams doing orienteering, outdoor team building through immersion.
Gaelic version of the animation Yoyo and the little Auk with an RSNO with an introduction and Q&A session with one of their Gaelic musicians and a staff member.
They will talk about the instruments behind the characters and what to listen out for in the story.
This would last about 1 hour
An intergenerational Gaelic and Nature Walk on Saturday. Participants will walk along a local coastal route (some of the older people or anyone with walking difficulties will be taken by taxi) with the older people sharing history, stories and placenames. Younger participants will take responsibility for recording these conversations on their phones, capturing both the oral history and the shared experience. The material recorded on the day will be edited by a technician into a short film highlighting the cultural and linguistic heritage of the area. This film will serve as a legacy piece, preserving local knowledge while encouraging continued intergenerational exchange. Earlier in the week (final dates to be confirmed with local schools) we will run two Gaelic play sessions, one for P1-3 children and one for P4-7 children, together with their parents/grandparents/guardians, and other older members of the community. The children, with their accompanying adults, will be in small groups, each led by a fluent Gaelic speaker so ensuring that the language around the play is all in Gaelic. There will be refreshments available all served by Gaelic speaking helpers. An important part of this will be giving parents with little Gaelic simple vocabulary to use during play sessions at home. If this event is successful, we will talk to parents about repeating it at future dates, so ensuring a continuing legacy and benefit.

Join Frank McConnell and Jen Wren (plus other special guests), in a fun and social day that celebrates Gaelic as a living culture — best learned by joining in! Prepare for a lively and exciting day of workshops including puirt-a-beul (singing for dancing), Cape Breton step-dancing, stories of Scotland’s dance heritage, and formations of Cape Breton Square Sets.
Our event is free and intergenerational with no experience needed. Workshops are bilingual and welcoming for complete beginners, learners and fluent speakers/movers/singers alike.

“Ceangalaidhean Coimhearsnachd” will be a community celebration bringing together children from
Bowmore Primary School’s Gaelic classes and Sgoil-Araich, their parents, teachers, and the wider Gaelicspeaking community from Islay and Jura. Children from Islay High School Gaelic class and their parents
will also be invited. The event will take the form of a traditional cèilidh — an evening of traditional music,
song, highland and cèilidh dancing, and refreshments — showcasing local Gaelic talent and heritage
Join us for a family friendly cinema experience as part of World Gaelic Week on Mull and Tiree with Parker Dawes films, Da Sgadan and Gaelic in the Chest. There will be refreshements and the opportunity for you to practise your gaelic with speakers on both islands.
