Seachdain na Gàidhlig
World Gaelic Week
Tha Seachdain na Gàidhlig air a cho-òrdanachadh le Hands Up for Trad, Àireamh Carthannas na h-Alba 035 190.
The ranger talk this month is timed to coincide with Seachdain na Gàidhlig. This year’s theme is “Cleachd i no Caill i” (Use it or lose it), so I decided to make ‘Dualchas Grains’ the topic for this month’s ranger talk. I am especially going to focus on eòrna (bere barley) which is a cereal crop with a long history of being grown in the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, as well as Comhairle Eileanan Shealtainn and Comhairle Eileanan Arcaibh. I have also been in contact with the James Hutton Institute who have kindly offered to supply some seeds from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar grown varieties and there should be enough for people to take some home with them to try growing themselves.
The talk will be free but there is a suggested donation of £5. Please let me know if you are interested in attending so I can get an idea of numbers.
Maor-dùthcha na Hearadh/North Harris Trust Ranger is funded by Bòrd na Gàidhlig and NatureScot.
