FC Sonas and Seachdain Na Gàidhlig have teamed up with both the Highland Council and Western Isles Council to create the Highland & Island World Gaelic Week Football Festival.
The event will take place in Inverness on Friday the 23rd of February at the Canal Park Astro from 09:30am to 14:00pm and will be open to secondary school pupils between S1 to S3. The schools can entry more than a singular team with mixed representation, the more players playing football and engaging with the Gaelic language the better, the Seachdain Na Gàidhlig football festival is a celebration through the universal medium of football for our cultural identity.
Through bringing Highland and Island high schools together our aim is to create a community where different geographical regions can be connected by Gaelic language based football activity. We hope that this is the beginning for the development of pathways and grassroots activities to promote the positive benefits of team based sporting activity to grow confidence, connection and a sense of community at a key age group in Gaelic language development.
