Come and Try the Harp!
For this year’s World Gaelic Week, you’ll have the opportunity to try the harp in this fantastic workshop!
We at the Clàrsach Society (Glasgow Branch) are running workshops for adult beginners at An Lòchran in Glasgow’s West End, with Mòd Gold Medal winner Màiri Callan as our tutor.
A warm welcome to anyone with an interest in the harp and in Gaelic. You don’t need any prior experience with either the harp or Gaelic, and you don’t even need a harp – we’ll have plenty on the night!
The first workshop is for English speakers with an interest in the harp and in Gaelic, while the second workshop is entirely in Gaelic for Gaelic speakers with an interest in the harp.
Why not come along to a fun workshop and get a taste for the harp?
You can register for a limited spot – we can’t wait to see you!
The first workshop in English starts at 6pm on the 25th of February.
The second workshop in Gaelic starts at 7.15pm on the 25th of February.

Gaelic Resources at the School of Scottish Studies

Chaidh Sgoil Eòlais na h-Alba air a stèidheachadh o chionn 75 bliadhnaichean gus fiosrachadh mu bheatha sa choimhearsnachd, beul-aithris agus na h-ealan traidiseanta a chruinneachadh. Bheir an taisbeanadh seo sùil air clàraidhean-fuaime, dealbhan agus làmh-sgrìobhainnean a tha a’ sealltainn beatha nan Gàidheal agus cànan is cultar na Gàidhlig san linn a dh’fhalbh.

Celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, the School of Scottish Studies was set up to gather material on community life, folklore and the traditional arts. This presentation will explore sound recordings, photographs and manuscripts to give an insight into the lives of Gaels, Gaelic language and culture during the past century.

Come and enjoy a cuppa and some cake with your family as we celebrate Seachdain na Gàidhlig together. There will be fun-filled Gaelic reading sessions with stories, songs, puppets and games, led by our reading ambassador and acclaimed BBC presenter, Linda Macleod! Also crafts and face-painting will be available to entertain your little ones while you enjoy your tì! If you have little or no Gaelic or are fileanta sa Ghàidhlig we would love to see you there as we embrace this year’s theme of Cleachd i no Caill i! Use it or lose it! Thigibh ann! All welcome.

Gaelic Family Ceilidh

Come and celebrate Seachdain na Gaidhlig/World Gaelic Week 2026 with a fun night of dancing to Shore Road Ceilidh Band. Local guest performers inleude Gaelic song group Gabh Oran, talented fiddlers from Wallace Hall Academy & more!

Everyone welcome – whether you speak Gaelic or not there’ll be plenty to enjoy!

Galloway Gaelic and Manx Gaelg, similaricies and differences

A talk by Robby Ó Maolalaigh, Professor of Gaelic, Glasgow University and Michael Ansell of Gaidhlig DumGal.

As part of Seachdain na Gäidhlig 26, Gàidhlig DumGal is pleased to announce that Robby Ó Maolalaigh, Professor of Gaelic, University of Glasgow will be returning to Kirkcudbright on Saturday the 28th February to give a talk on ‘Galloway Gaelic and Manx Gaelg, similarities and differences’. He will be supported in this by Michael Ansell of Gaidhlig DumGal. The north of the island is almost as close to Galloway as it is to Douglas and it is clear that the Gaelic heritage of both areas is closely intertwined. Robby will discuss what can be said about the closeness (or otherwise) of the Gaelic spoken in Galloway until relatively recently to Manx Gaelg (the last native speaker of which died as recently as 1974). Michael will look at similarities in terms of Gaelic origin place and personal-names.

Talk: Gaelic Migration to Dundee

A fascinating talk by Nicky MacCrimmon in Verdant Works Museum (an 1833 mill) exploring the forgotten history of Scottish Gaels’ contribution to Dundee’s industrial history, including why Gaels came to Dundee, where they came from, and the lives of Gaels in 19th century Dundee.

Nicky MacCrimmon is a researcher into the Gaelic placenames, history and folklore of eastern Scotland.
