Seachdain na Gàidhlig

Celebrating Scottish Gaelic across the globe

23 February – 1 March 2026

Seachdain na Gàidhlig is a worldwide initiative, promoting Gaelic language and culture.

Established in 2022 and funded by Bòrd na Gàidhlig, Seachdain na Gàidhlig (World Gaelic Week) celebrates Scottish Gaelic across the globe and raises the profile of Gaelic through community initiatives, schools’ engagement, and an exciting calendar of events.

Join us from 23 February – 1 March 2026 and celebrate 5 years since Seachdain na Gàidhlig started. From dances and talks to baking and walks, it promises to be a packed programme.

Anybody can take part or run their own event – the initiative offers opportunities for Gaelic speakers, and those without the language, to get involved in a way that suits them. Whether you are in Scotland or further afield – get in touch if you would like to discuss an idea.

Say A Gaelic Phrase Day

Thursday 26th February 2026 is Say A Gaelic Phrase Day.

This is an initiative to encourage people to try speaking Gaelic, or to use the Gaelic that they have! To take part, all you need to do is pick a Gaelic phrase, learn how to say it (by listening to our audio files), make a video (on your phone, tablet or computer) and post it on social media using the hashtag #LàAbairtNaGàidhlig or #SayAGaelicPhraseDay. Simple as that!
