Seachdain na Gàidhlig
World Gaelic Week
Seachdain na Gàidhlig is facilitated by Hands Up for Trad, Scottish Charity No 035 190.
To help teachers and young people engage with Seachdain na Gàidhlig, we have collated a comprehensive selection of resources in partnership with educational publishers, Twinkl Alba. The activities and resources include teacher planners, suggested content and activities aimed at both primary and secondary levels for both Gàidhlig medium and Gaelic Learners – ensuring that all children and teachers can get involved, whether they are fluent or just starting their journey with the language.
Hosted by broadcaster, singer & presenter Joy Dunlop, these free, daily, online, sessions feature games, activities, songs, stories and quizzes and are inspired by this year’s theme of ‘cleachd i no caill i’ (use it or lose it).
Schools are encouraged to attend as many of the daily sessions as they can throughout the week, but are not required to attend all sessions to have an enjoyable experience. We will provide themed resources that can be used in class with all age groups.

No previous experience of Gaelic is necessary – we provide sessions for classes with all levels of Gaelic experience – from total beginners to fluent speakers.
This is a special and exciting opportunity for children across Scotland to come together to experience and celebrate Gaelic as an important part of Scottish cultural life, in a fun and engaging way!
In the workshops, children will develop literary confidence, listening and linguistic skills and will be encouraged to think about their identity and community, helping them feel more connected to their peers, wider community and develop their sense of cultural identity.
All participating pupils will receive a Seachdain na Gàidhlig | World Gaelic Week 2026 certificate available to download and print from Twinkl.
We have resources available for individuals, schools and organisations to deliver events in their own communities. We encourage young people to consider how volunteering to deliver an event in their school or community as part of Seachdain na Gàidhlig 2026 could contribute to their achievement of an Arts Award, Saltire Award or even a Young Scot Award or other accreditation.
Seachdain na Gàidhlig 2025 online schools’ workshop programme generated 16,700 instances of participation from 173 individual schools across 25 local authority areas.
