Mother. Often the first word we learn in the languages of our elders. But what shapes the words we use to tell our stories and sing our songs as we grow? Join us on International Mother Language Day for a cabaret of story, song and poetry in Gaelic, Scots, BSL, Ukrainian, Crimean Tatar and English.
Featuring contributions from an array of incredible talent, including Elzara Batalova, Màrtainn Mac an t-Saoir, Olga Niekrasova, Tim Porteus & Evie Waddell.
Contributions will be performed in different languages, with context given in English, allowing the languages to be experienced and enjoyed.
Part of Seachdain na Gàidhlig (World Gaelic Week). In collaboration with TRACS and the University of Edinburgh Gaelic Writer in Residence and the Department of Celtic and Scottish Studies.

Màthair. ‘s e seo a’ chiad fhacal a chanas sinn mar as àbhaist nar cànan màthaireil. Ach dè bheireas buaidh air na faclan a chleachdas sinn nar sgeulachdan is nar òrain fhad ‘s a tha sinn a’ fàs? Thigibh còmhla rinn air Latha Eadar-nàiseanta nan Cànan Màthaireil airson cèilidh de sgeulachdan, òrain agus bàrdachd ann an Gàidhlig, Albais, BSL, Ukrainian, Crimean Tatar agus Beurla.
