SUMMARY:Ceilidh Club Live with Lauren Macleod
DESCRIPTION:Ruig is thog Lauren NicLeòid ann an Leodhas\, am baile Lacasdal. Thòisich i a’ seinn mar nighean og am bun-sgoil anns a’ Mhòd\, agus thòirt sin dhi uidh ann an òrain\, bàrdachd agus ceòl. Tha ì a-nis a’ fuireachd ann an Lunnain\, far an d’rinn i ceum mhaighstireachd ann an seinn clasaigeach agus opera aig an t-Acadamh Rìoghal na Ceòl. Tha i an-duigh ag obair mar seinneadar opera\, ach chan eil i air cuir as leis a’ Ghàidhlig. Tha i air òrain gàidhlig a seinn ri thaobh Mozart agus Mahler\, agus tha i gu dearbh dhan bheachd gu bheil iad airigh air. \nLauren Macleod was born and raised in Laxdale on the Isle of Lewis. She began singing in primary school through the Mod\, which instilled an interest in song\, poetry and music. Today\, she lives in London\, where she studied for a master’s degree in vocal performance at the Royal Academy of Music. She now works as an opera singer but has not put aside her Gaelic roots. She has performed Gaelic songs in concert halls alongside Mozart and Mahler\, and is of the firm opinion that they have just as much right to be there. \nJoin Lauren Macleod for some Gaelic songs in this relaxed Facebook live event. Lauren will be discussing and performing some touchstones of the genre and some of her personal favourites. \nCost: Free

SUMMARY:Dè th’ ann an Leabhraichean Ainme an t-Suirbhidh Òrdanais bho na 1860an? What are the Ordnance Survey Name Books from the 1860s?
DESCRIPTION:Iain Mac an Tàilleir formerly of Sabhal Mòr Ostaig will be looking at the value of the Ordnance Survey Name Books in identifying residual Gaelic areas in the 19th century. \nCò ghanbh trusadh nan ainmean os làimh agus cò na tùsan fiosrachaidh aca? Ciamar a chuidicheas na Leabhraichean Ainme sinn ann an sònrachadh sgìrean far an robh fileantaich no leth-fhileantaich aig an àm? Cuiridh an òraid seo cuideam air Siorrachdan Mhoireibh is Bhanbh le sùil anns an dol-seachad air ceàrnaidhean Gallda/Gàidhealach eile mar Siorrachd Aonghais is Shruighlea. \nWho undertook the collecting of names and who were the informants? How do the Name Books help identify areas with native or semi-fluent speakers at the time? This talk will focus on Morayshire and Banffshire with a mention of other Lowland/Highland border areas such as Angus and Stirlingshire.
